Greg Laswell is not only a talented singer-songwriter, but he's also a nice guy and a great live performer. I attended his concert the other night at Club Congress, an intimate gem of a venue, and was blown away. Concerts are a whole different experience when you're right next to the stage and get to meet the artist.
I've loved Greg's music since I heard his cover of "Girls just wanna have fun" a few years ago (check it out on youtube; it's amazing). He's a relative unknown in mainstream pop music, but his songs have been featured in a fair amount of t.v. shows.
I'd characterize his sound as melodious and melancholy. His songs are a blend of reflective ballads and the occasional up-tempo up lifter.
Watching him perform also re-sparked my drive to write more music this summer and record.
He just released a new CD about a month ago -- give it a listen and enjoy the beauty:
